Car repairs
A car that will not start is rarely a convenient expense. If you need the car to get to work, waiting until payday can cost more than the repair itself.
Before you apply
Ask the mechanic for a written quote, and ask whether the repair can be split into what is needed now and what can wait. Many workshops offer their own payment terms, and some insurers cover towing or a hire car, both are cheaper than borrowing.
What a loan is useful for here
A repair with a firm quote and a firm date. You know the amount, you know when the car is back, and the cost of the loan is fixed before you sign, so it is a decision you can make once rather than a bill that keeps growing.
What we look at
Your recent repayment history and whether the repayments fit your pay cycle, read from ninety days of bank statements rather than a credit score alone. A less-than-perfect credit file is not an automatic no.
What to have ready
- The written quote from the workshop
- Your driver licence or another form of photo ID
- Online access to the bank account your income is paid into
Amounts, terms and the fees that apply are set out in full on our loan types page, and the exact cost of your loan is disclosed before you sign.
