Moving costs

Moving concentrates several months of expenses into one week, bond, rent in advance, removalists, and the connection fees that follow you to the new address.

Before you apply

Your old bond is usually refunded, but rarely in time to pay the new one, so check the expected date. Most states run a bond loan or bond transfer scheme for eligible renters, and those are interest-free, worth checking before any commercial credit.

What a loan is useful for here

Bridging the overlap between paying the new bond and getting the old one back, or covering removalists and connection fees so the move itself is not the thing that has to wait.

What we look at

Whether the repayments fit alongside the new rent, assessed from your statements. Moving usually raises your fixed costs, and the assessment is done against the new picture rather than the old one.

What to have ready

  • The new lease or the bond amount you have been asked for
  • Quotes for removalists or a truck hire, if you are using one
  • Online access to the bank account your income is paid into

Amounts, terms and the fees that apply are set out in full on our loan types page, and the exact cost of your loan is disclosed before you sign.
