Travel at short notice

A funeral, a family member in hospital, a flight you need to be on this week. Fares booked at short notice are the most expensive kind, and the timing is not something you chose.

Before you apply

Some airlines offer compassionate or bereavement fares if you ask and can provide documentation, and a few employers advance leave in these circumstances. Both are worth the phone call before you borrow.

What a loan is useful for here

Travel that cannot be rescheduled, where the cost of waiting is not financial. This is the situation approval speed genuinely matters for, and it is also the situation where it is easiest to borrow more than you need, book the travel first, then apply for that amount.

What we look at

The same assessment as every other application. Urgency does not change what we are required to check, and it does not lower the cost of the loan.

What to have ready

  • The fare or booking you need to cover
  • Your photo ID
  • Online access to the bank account your income is paid into

Amounts, terms and the fees that apply are set out in full on our loan types page, and the exact cost of your loan is disclosed before you sign.
